She-Hulk movie? She-Hulk movie

Unfortunately, this isn't a "OMFG THEY'RE DOING A SHE-HULK MOVIE DKSDJFDJDS;SDJFLSJFLAJ THANK YOU ZOMBIE JESUS!!!!" post. Sorry to get your hopes up. No, I saw a post on SF Signal that got me thinking about a potential She-Hulk movie and the problems therein. First off, as you can tell, I would not be opposed whatsoever to a movie starring the emerald gal. Indeed, I think Marvel needs to do more movies featuring characters that aren't as well known as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Thor, etc. I know there are rumblings of Doctor Strange and Guardians of the Galaxy movies, so its clear that they're starting to expand their focus. The biggest problem I see is how they portray Jen Walters.

Or do we get the Hulk, but with breasts? Personally, I'm shooting for the former. The other question is who should play her? Obviously, we'd get a CGI She-Hulk modeled to resemble whoever they cast to play her human self before her transformation into She-Hulk. That brings up another question, do they keep her in "Hulk mode" after her initial transformation or do they let her shift back and forth. She does possess the latter ability in the comics and it would probably work better than having Walters be She-Hulk 24/7. Back to the previous question, my mind keeps coming back to Keira Knightley. I can't think of anyone else, though I have seen a photoshopped picture of Megan Fox as She-Hulk. Yeah, no thanks.

As for director, that's easy as pie - Joss Whedon.

Now, we just have to hope that Marvel decides to make some movies starring female superheroes, because the current comic movie genre is a near-total sausage fest.

Aside from the apparently homoerotic overtones, I mean. Seriously, spend five minutes on Tumblr and you'll be convinced that they're in a committed relationship, and Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss are just trolling the fandom.

Then again, Tumblr is convinced that every fictional male character is gay. They take their shipping very, very seriously.

I toyed with the idea of posting some of it here for shits and giggles, but I'd rather not have to turn on the adult content warning. On the other hand, that would probably give my hits a boost.

Now here's an oddity of blogging

So, several months ago I made these two posts: It's dangerous to go alone, take one of these and Holy frak! Benedict Cumberbatch cast as the villain for Star Trek 2! and both quickly because two of the biggest posts on this blog, which was nice, but also bothersome. Bothersome because they were individually getting more hits than any of the original content that I was putting out. It irked me that a news post and a picture someone else created were more popular than my own labors of love. That's partly the reason why posts on here became few and far between. The other reason was because I had unintentionally allowed Nerd-Thing to become like a lot of other blogs out there, i.e. regurgitating the same shit as everyone else like some kind of Blogging Centipede, but that was an unrelated issue.

Then, the damnedest thing happened recently: those two posts nosedived in the pageview department. The one about Benedict Cumberbatch completely fell off the Earth, while the Zelda one is steadily following suit. I have no idea what or why it happened, but it did and I am so frakking glad! I mean, sure, the two top posts this week (and last...) were the fake Good Omens movie poster and Link's shields, but it's better than having two old (as balls) posts staring you in the face on the stats screen.

I actually don't think they and the regurgitation were the only reasons my blogging on here declined, nor was it the creation of Swords, Dragons, and Nerds and Rayguns and Space Suits. I think I just blogged myself out and it stopped being a fun thing to do.

I'm back. Expect more regular posts.

Edit: I just noticed that total number of pageviews has dropped too. Meh, no biggie.

Walden Two: Electric Boogaloo

Went yard saling today and while I didn't buy any yards, I did see the oddity of the above post title on a book. At first, I thought it was a sequel to Walden by Henry David Thoreau. Actually, that's not entirely true, the first thought that came to mind when I read  the title was "Electric Boogaloo". I regret nothing. Anyway, it wasn't a sequel, but a science fiction novel written back in 1948 by some behavioral psychologist named B. F. Skinner. Yeah, never heard of it either.

Odd name for a book, if you ask me and a potentially confusing one at that.

I thought this video might be of interest. Steve Jackson was on the most recent episode of TableTop, playing Munchkin against Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, and Sandeep Parikh. TableTop is a web series created by Wheaton and Day as part of the latter's Geek and Sundry YouTube channel. It's actually a pretty excellent show where Wheaton plays different games with a rotating guest list. I'm not going to say who wins, so you'll have to watch. Suffice to say, it's entertaining, what with the backstabbing and two-timing.


Okay, I lied about not saying who won. I love the fact that Steve Jackson won the very game he designed.

In which Spider-Man is the worst boyfriend ever

I'm guessing this came from a trailer, or someone traveled to the immediate future, bought the Amazing Spider-Man DVD, then made gifs. Really, that's a totally irresponsible use of a time machine and they should be ashamed of themselves.

Dude, you don't defenestrate a woman on the first date ever. You especially don't defenestrate, then catch a woman with webbing when it's Gwen Stacy, because it never ends well.

Ready Player One by Ernest Cline (who wrote the screenplay for Fanboys) is a pretty excellent book and I'd highly recommend it. Here's a review from SF Signal. RPO is set in a dystopic near-future where the global economy has turned to crap and the masses immerse themselves in an MMO/virtual world called OASIS. The plot revolves around the main character, a teen named Wade Watts, and a group of other players as they try to claim the prize left by one of the creators of OASIS - his wealth and controlling interest in the company that runs the games. At the same time, they have to dodge and hide from an evil megacorporation out to claim the prize for themselves and kill anyone who gets in their way. Their goal is to seize control of the other company and monetize the living hell out of OASIS to the extent that only the rich and powerful would be able to use it.

The book includes a lot of pop culture references. A lot. To be honest, I think Cline overdoes it. On the other hand, the Serenity from Firefly and the DeLorean from Back to the Future are in the book, so that's a plus.
