For a loner, Batman sure has a lot of kids

With the exception of Barbara Gordon and Stephanie Brown, everyone else in that picture claims A Man Dressed Like A Bat as their father. Damian is another exception, though, since he isn't adopted and comes straight from the bat-loins.
It's not a stretch to figure out why he's adopted so many kids, despite his loner status. All of the kids that Bruce Wayne has adopted are orphans, like him. He was lucky though, because he was rich and had a guardian to raise him. The former weren't as lucky and probably would have ended up bouncing around from one foster home to the next, or even dead. I think they also act like his anchor to reality, something to keep him from going completely batshit insane (no pun intended). It appears to be effective, but not super effective.
